If you keep getting reject cause 15, i.e. one (or both) of these lines in the log, it indicates either a subscription or coverage problem. I recommend you contact your network operator to make sure that there are LTE-M or NB-IoT coverage in your area, and that your subscription supports it.

I'm using LTE-M & Nb-IoT support sim card. But I get LTE searching every time.

What SIM card are you using?

Does it support LTE-M or NB-IoT?

The nRF9160 does not work with "normal" 4G LTE, only LTE-M (cat M1) and NB-IoT (cat nb1)

hello again,

According to your guide I have configured Modem LTE-M and and turn on the PDN but LTE Link Monitor shows LTE : Device Closed or Unknown ,PDN =off. As in below Figure.

1. Is this outputs means modem still didn't connected on mobile network ?

2. Is there any way to fix this issue? Any recommendations or guides?

I must say all your guides work well on terminal. Thanks for you previous guides.

The modem turns on, but it is not able to connect to a network. Instead, it is rejected with reject cause 15.

Cause #15 – No suitable cells in tracking area

This EMM cause is sent to the UE if it requests service, or if the network initiates a detach request, in a tracking area where the UE, by subscription, is not allowed to operate, but when it should find another allowed tracking area or location area in the same PLMN or an equivalent PLMN.

This usually indicates a problem with the subscription or the network, e.g. NB-IoT is not supported.

You can use the AT%XSYSTEMMODE command:

AT%XSYSTEMMODE=1,0,1,0 (this will also enable GPS, if you don't want/need that, change the second 1 to 0).

You can then store the setting in modem flash with AT+CEREG=0.

Note that the %XSYSTEMMODE command only can be used when the modem is in flight mode (+CFUN=4) or offline (+CFUN=0).

hello again,

I tried you recommended "at_client" sample and above noted "AT" command but modem didn't turn on. I wait at least 12 minutes. The terminal widow show only range of receivec signal qualities as in above Figure. I have attached the log file as you said. Can check it and give any recommendations.

Debugging network connection issues is much easier if you use the at_client sample, and the AT commands I mentioned previously.

No, cellular signals generally don't have much problems penetrating buildings.

1.Below Figure show the result LTE Link Monitor shows when I try MQTT_sample code. The LTE keep searching, Is this happen when problem in SIM or signal.

2. I am using this device setup inside a building. Hence, do I need to attach external antenna.

3. Only I need to do was run MQTT_sample code and monitor the subscribe details through internet. So, I need to establish interne connection.

Can you provide any recommendations.

The nRF9160 should work with any LTE-M or NB-IoT enabled SIM. "Normal" 4G LTE is not supported.

I recommend you use the at_client sample, and run the following AT commands:

// These commands gives us usefull notifications when the modem is running
AT+CGMR
AT+CEREG=5
AT+CMEE=1
AT+CNEC=24
AT%CESQ=1

// If you are running mfw_nrf9160_1.3.0 or newer (check the output of AT+CGMR)
AT%MDMEV=1

// Finally turn on the modem
AT+CFUN=1

After sending AT+CFUN=1, could you let the modem run for a while, and if it doesn't connect to a network send me the log (press the "open log file" button, and upload the file)?
