It could be that setting CONFIG_BT_WAIT_NOP=y also helps.

PS: We have an sample on how to run the Bluetooth Host on the nRF9160, and the Bluetooth Controller on the nRF52840, with the lte_ble_gateway sample: https://github.com/nrfconnect/sdk-nrf/tree/main/samples/nrf9160/lte_ble_gateway

Yes, I did specify the board revision (via nRF Connect VSCode extension). In VSCode terminal the west build command has "--board nrf9160dk_nrf52840@1.0.0" as argument

Hi,

Did you specify a board revision when building your application?

When building the nrf9160 app:

-DBOARD=nrf9160dk_nrf9160_ns@1.0.0

When building the nRF52840 app:

-DBOARD=nrf9160dk_nrf52840@1.0.0

I have done a lot of testing and I found that this was caused by including "#include <nrf9160dk_nrf52840_reset_on_if9.dtsi>". I am not sure why this is but when I removed this line, no more assertion fails are created.
