I wanted to add another important point to this thread for the M1 Mac. You can setup your Mac to run nRF Connect -OR- nrfjprog but you can't run both. Here are the combinations that work on my system:

x86 JLINK + nRF Tools + nRF Connect for Desktop ==> This combination lets you run nRF Connect tools such as the power profiler and RSSI viewer.

M1 JLINK + nRF Tools ==> This combination lets you run the command line tools like nrfjprog and mergehex

Hi,

I can understand your frustration with this, and I am sorry that you had to spend so much time on getting it to work.

The reasons we need to do it this way for now is driver incompatibilities, as we do not have M1-versions of all tools and components. The plan is to get native M1 support, but I do not have any time frame for when this will come.

it definitely fixed the issue - thanks.

PS: I wonder why Nordic does not fix this tiny issue. It costed me 20 hours of fix trials with finally no success. It is not intuitive that you MUST NOT select the M1 button if you have an M1. I think elimination of the M1 option and re-labeling the remaining option as "x86 and M1" would solve everything and would not cause people running into this nasty issue!

Hi,

Select the macOS download of nRF Command Line Tools. You should find the installation for J-Link for x86 there, as seen in Vidar's comment here: https://devzone.nordicsemi.com/f/nordic-q-a/82754/current-state-of-supporting-apple-m1/343406#343406.

Hi,

On M1 based Mac machines you must install the Intel/x86 variants of J-Link. The same is true for nrfjprog if you are using that. Please try to install the Intel variant of these tools and see if that fixes the issue.
