nRF Connect For Desktop Bluetooth Low Energy does not support the DFU mechanism used in the nRF Connect SDK (Simple Management Protocol (SMP) provided by MCUmgr), so you have to use a mobile application that support it or another tool (like the mcumgr command-line tool).

Thank you for your response, I followed that guide to get where I am now and have been able to perform a DFU through the nrf connect app. However, through nrf connect for desktop the DFU service is not there.

Add DFU support to your application - Software - nRF Connect SDK guides - Nordic DevZone (nordicsemi.com)

Please follow the link the attached. Also there's a mobile application nrf connect Device manager, where you can verify If your project includes bluetooth DFU and see some buttons as you mentioned.
