Hmm, I didn't tried that. My laptop is an old one which doesn't support BLE.

So I haven't tried. How about trying it by yourself?

Thank you for detailed info.I will do the test. Regarding my question about "is it for PC", what I meant was, suppose we paired the HID keyboard in a PC and open notepad. I was thinking the consumer control may pop out the keyboard(like on screen keyboard) in the PC :)

Also one more.

There needs a certain situation to send this "eject button". I will give you 3 situations.

After connection, the user did not opened an app that requires typing (like notepad)

send "eject key". -> Send "hello" -> Open the notepad -> The keyboard does not appear.

After connection, the user opened an app that requires typing

Suppose the keyboard didn't appeared. -> Send "eject key" -> keyboard pops up

-> send "hello" -> (when using iOS 8.1) the keyboard disappears again. (Check this, please).

After connection, the user opened an app that requires typing

Send "hello" -> keyboard disappears -> send "eject key" -> keyboard appears

(but does not disappear even you send "hello" again)

This was observed when I tested with iOS 8.1 and I did this almost 4 months ago.

So please check again and I hope you can get the anticipating results of yours.

One more, I didn't understand about "is it for PC".

As you see the picture above, do you see the eject button?

As far as I know, the consumer report link I gave you is about sending that eject button.

Well, some times the keyboard show up after opening notepad.

However, if you sent any keyboard key from your board, the keyboard disappears in iOS.

Try this step.

Connect your HID keyboard peripheral (your board) with the iOS device.
Open notepad. If the keyboard does not shows up, tap the screen.

Then the keyboard may come up.

However, if you send "hello" with your board,

the keyboard never comes up (even you tap the screen)

unless you disconnect the peripheral or send a consumer report key.

It is just how the iOS is implemented.

Also, even you send this "consumer report key" when you connect your board with an Android device,

the key does not shows up.

After connecting with an Android device, you need to change some settings manually to pop up the keyboard.

After connection,

iOS - needs consumer report
Android - needs extra settings

Thank you Buddy. I am not able to get my head around why we need to pop up the hidden keyboard, as IOS and Android will show the keyboard if we open notepad or any message app(without consumer control right?). Is it for the PC?

Hurray......................Hi Thank you soooo much for the help. I am able to solve 0x3401 issue, sending hello to IOS 8 with SDK 6.0 and Soft device 7.0. The Issue was with SDK 6.1 as you mentioned.I am able to receive some chars from UART but I need to add UART table.

As you know, ble_hids_inp_rep_send calls sd_ble_gatts_hvx and this will return that error code.

Sorry but can you post your source code once more?

I will check your code but if the scope goes out of my hand,

I think you should write a new post for this error your facing, since the original question was to

solve the unshowing keyboard.

I see you considered the compatibility matrix. I'm aware but I have once used the Rev.2 chip (QFAA).

While using, I accidentally used the SDK 7.2 + S110 7.1 on that.

Well, it did worked. It didn't showed big issue with me.

So, I guess that you are using that board for some test.

How about giving a try? :D

If you are trying to verify your project with that board and make your own custom product later on,

I think it is not a bad idea to use the SDK 7.2 with S110 7.1 for now.

Thank you for the detailed info. The following is the method that is returning the error.

err_code = ble_hids_inp_rep_send(p_hids, INPUT_REPORT_KEYS_INDEX, INPUT_REPORT_KEYS_MAX_LEN, data);

Looks like someone got similar error here BLE_ERROR_GATTS_SYS_ATTR_MISSING error

I am still using SDK 6.1. Unfortunately I cannot use SDK 7.2 as my board variant is CEAA(i.e IC version 2). The latest SDK I can use with IC 2 chip as for the compatibility matrix is SDK 6.1. I will try to test with SDK 5.2 and see what happens.

That error number (0x3401) is returned when System Attributes are missing.

It is defined at ble_gatts.h.

#define BLE_ERROR_GATTS_SYS_ATTR_MISSING   (NRF_GATTS_ERR_BASE + 0x001)

While debugging, can you tell which function (it will be a svcall) is returning this?

Also, did you changed your SDK to 7.2 or are you using 6.1?

I received a report from the dev team that SDK 6.1 has a bug on device manager.

So, if you cannot eventually find the cause, try it with the SDK 7.2's example.

Can you also tell me the result after applying the HID Keyboard from SDK 7.2?

Sorry for delayed response.Since I was waiting for the push button device to test the original HID. Here is my observation.

The original HID keyboard, did not work and I am getting 0x00003401 error (verified using debug), Then I tried to test with MasterControlPanel to see if I get the same issue. I was not able to connect to the device in the control panel even though it discovers the device.
So I decided to test HID with consumer report using MasterControlPanel. I am able to receive "hello" in MasterControlPanel. So I paired the device in the ipad and tried see if I receive any key. When I try sent h(any letter) ,no key is received and the Noric_keybozrd device is getting disconnected in my ipad. /**/ 3)Regarding Pop up the hidden keyboard after connection problem did not solve.Can you please send me the screenshot how the keyboard looks.Is it the same keyboard used in notepad or do we get any option to select ble keyboard. I have not seen any ble keyboard.
Regarding testing with other devices, I have not tested with any other android or iOS device and I am need get them and test.
Thank for the UART Table. I will try to add the conversion.

Wait. What happens if you use the original HID Keyboard example? Does the notepad shows "hello" as expected?

The reason why I'm asking this is to see if your's code of UART is okay.

If you sent "hello" while using the original HID keyboard example,

then we should consider that the UART code of yours need correction.

The original question was to pop up the hidden keyboard after connection.

Did you solved this by adding the consumer report?

Thank you for the effort and screenshots. I have found that we can turn on/off the "Switch Control Device" in IOS and It may not causing any issue. I am sending hello as ASCII chars from YAT. I am using setup as shown in Page 16 of ISP130301 Interface board to send ASCII chars via USB to RS232 interface(acts as UART in this setup) to my modified app. I will try Android , iphone6+ and Master Control Panel.

In your code, what char are you sending?

Since you have the PCA10000 USB dongle, can you check with the Master Control Panel program?

Or if you have an Andriod phone, try a test with the Nordic Master Control Panel app.

No issues buddy. I should thank you soo much. I have checked with iPad Mini with IOS 8.3. Now I am able to connect to the keyboard("Switch Control Device Not found" disappeared). When I disconnect the keyboard "Switch Control Device Not found" is shown. This looks good but When I send key events from my app I am not seeing anything on my notepad. Can you send a screen shot of the chars printed on notepad with your app.

I didn't knew both boards had the same pin config. Sorry about that.

Back to the original question, does the "HID keyboard App" example works?

I have tested the code (the Github link) and it worked. (I use PCA10001 and iPhone 6+ with iOS 8.4)

Can you debug and check with Keil uVision that your modified code works?

Or can you upload your code?

Since I am using ISP130603 Interface Board for the testing, After careful observation I found that nRF6310 and ISP130603 Interface Board use same pin config. see page no 7 of ISP130603 Interface Board and nrf6310 pin config. But I need to add a custom header file if I am not using ISP130603 Interface Board but that is not the case at the moment. I will try only ISP130301 and UART (custom interface board) once my project with ISP130603 interface board works.

You said its a custom board and It is based nRF51822.

Well all the boards (at boards.h) are based with nRF51822.

I found the schematic of your DK. Link (See page 5)

If you compare the wires and the nrf6310.h header file, I think there are mismatches.

So if this vendor does not provide header files for your board,

I think you should make one for your own.

I have not defined any preprocessor forISP130301-DK1. I am using nrf6310.h and the example key_board_app used for this board. They say its a custom board and It is based nRF51822. That is it. This is where I am struggling most. Here is nrf6310.h
