This is a constraint in the current revision of the nRF8001. Have you considered using the nRF51822.

Is this a hard constraint or is it something that could be changed in a firmware change? It would be much more useful to me to be able to add a single custom Ad type of a longer length than two of only 20 bytes.

Unfortunately, the length of the Custom Advertisement types on the nRF8001 is limited to 20 bytes due to design limitations.

There seems to be a maximum length to this field, even if you have enough space in the advertising packet for more data?

When I try to enter: 4c000215e20a39f473f54bc4a12f17d1ad07a96100000000c8

It truncates the data before the last 5 bytes (you can see in the image above the paste stopped at 0x61, and manually entering data has the same effect).

There was no problem on the nRF51822 advertising with the longer array.

Sorry, I see you need to check the 'Custom defined 1' checkbox as well. I'll see if I can get this working advertising the correct payload, thanks.

Thanks for the quick reply, though the data doesn't seem to get updated in the advertising packet, even though there should be enough room in the 31 byte payload:

Hi,

Did you try using the "Custom Advertising types” on the GAP settings tab in nRFgo studio. Set AD type to 0xFF (Manufacturer Specific Data) and enter the value you want to advertise. Note that this is a static value.
