For the nRF5 SDK, we mainly use Debugging using Segger Embedded Studio or JLink Ozone.
Therefore I suggest using one of these.

VS Code is very extensible, so you could be able to add debugging functionality for debugging in VS Code, but I will not be able to tell you how to do this.

is there another way to debug with the vs code?
maybe with the nrf5 sdk?

The VS Code for nRF Connect extension does not support the nRF5 SDK.
Therefore, you can not use its debugging function for your nRF5 SDK project using the VS Code for nRF Connecg extension.

Are you using the nRF5 SDK or the nRF Connect SDK?
