&lt;p&gt;The &amp;quot;value&amp;quot; is application specific. I.e. you can use this 8-bit value for whatever you want.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;No, there isn&amp;#39;t a way to get all the items out of the buffer at the same time.
