If your computer support BLE itself, you should be able to connect to an advertising nRF52840 DK by going to the Bluetooth settings in your computer settings.

If not, you should be able to use the nRF52840 DK and Bluetooth Low Energy app to connect to and communicate as you wish with another device. After connecting you can edit the data length and throughput to what you'd like. Then it's up to the peripheral if it transfers more than 2 bytes or not.
