My Thingy91 has suddenly stopped connecting to the mobile network. It came with an ibasis SIM which has data, but since this morning I am getting an ESM 38 + EMM 19 error. I thought it might have to do with my own code, and flashed the latest modem

RE: ESM Reject Code 38

Hi again,

Just another update, looks like there was a network wide issue with Telstra for LTE-M here down under. Everything has started working again. Thanks for your help, and at least I learned something new.

Thanks for your quick reply. Two follow-up questions, if you don't mind:

Does iBasis even have an end-user facing dashboard / support mechanism? I used to charge the sim card through nrfcloud.com, and looking at iBasis website it seems like their target audience is not developers / end-users.

Is the reason for my normal sim card not working the fact that my network supports FD-LTE, TD-LTE and LTE-A, while Thingy 91 connects to LTE-M?

Cause code 19 and 38 indicates that you're not allowed to roam to the network you're connecting to.

I would recommend that you contact iBasis and ask about this, or contact your local network provider and ask if they have any iot subscriptions (to get a home registered SIM)

Kind regards,

Just insterted the iBasis SIM card into my phone, and it was successfully registered on the network, so no fault with the network (apparently).

Then I tried a local SIM card (Optus), and used the below directives in prj.conf for GNSS sample:

CONFIG_PDN=y
CONFIG_PDN_DEFAULTS_OVERRIDE=y
CONFIG_PDN_DEFAULT_APN="yesinternet"

I can see new access point is sent to the modem:

AT+CGDCONT?
+CGDCONT: 0,"IPV4V6","yesinternet","",0,0

After 20 minutes, I get a "<err> gnss_sample: Failed to connect to LTE network" message in LTE monitor.
