That's right, you need this cable, and then you need to solder a "male" header similar to the one on the "Debug out" of the DK, to the underside of the dongle as shown below:

But I don't know how to connect to the dongle if both headers are female, or I need a "male" header like below?

Hi,

Yes, you need to connect the dongle to the Debug Out pin on the DK. If you need to put new firmware into the dongle, then you will have to "Erase all" (and I guess you have already erased it before since you have tried other samples on it and hence the bootloader firmware is no longer there).

I didn't connect the dongle to the nrf52840 DK correctly. I am working on how to connect the dongle to nRF52840 DK.

As far as I know, I need to use Debug out port to connect them together.

Hi Priyanka,

I connected the dongle to the nrf52840 DK.

The programmer app shows that "Device is protected. Press Erase all ..."..

I programmed the nrf52840 DK with Blinky example before.

Can I click "Erase all" on nrf52840 DK? (I'm afraid of erasing something I don't know again...)

So if you need to program the dongle,

1. You can press the white button and make the dongle enter bootloader mode, which is only possible if you have a bootloader firmware on the dongle. And my guess is that when you tried to write again, you erased this firmware on the dongle. (this firmware is usually the pink box in your first screenshot), which is why pressing the white button won't take you to bootloader mode and you cannot program.

2. Another way to program the Dongle is connecting it to an external debugger (I used the debugger on the nRF52840 DK, you can use any debugger of your choice). This debugger will be detected by the Programmer App and you can proceed to programming.

oh~ I get it. I programmed my dongle via USB DFU. I didn't use a DK or an external debugger.

Did you try to program the dongle vis USD DFU as mentioned in the tutorial? (since the dongle does not have any debuggers on it). I.e are you trying to program the dongle via a DK or any external debugger?

I can't find it. It displays nothing.

I also tried this command, and it says " No debuggers were discovered."

(But I actually plugged in)

Are you able to find the dongle when you check for connected devices in the command prompt? ( nrfjprog -i ) This should show all connected devices.

Hi Priyanka,

Yes, I updated the JLink drivers to the version 7.66d.
By the way, my nRF52840 Dongle is recognized as an unknown device in device manager, after I tried to write a file to the dongle.
