 Because of space restraints, in order to get the the programming signals out from under the laird module we are using.

&lt;p&gt;The GPIO pin will have high impedence, with reset state disabled and no pull resistors when they are not used, whether during the programming or not. So it should be fine to route on a different layer, over the GPIO pads as long as they are not used in the design.&lt;/p&gt;
