Here is the response from our VS code team:

The nRF Connect extension will use the generated cmake compile commands file to configure intellisense, and the C++ extension should be able to pick up this configuration automatically. If there are issues with this, we'd need a description of the issues, and some way to reproduce it, as it's expected to work out of the box for builds created with the extension.
