The nRF Connect SDK and nRF5 SDK are two separate SDKs. We are slowly migrating towards the nRF Connect SDK and the nRF Connect for Desktop is built for nRF Connect SDK support. So if you open the SES through the Toolchain Manager in nRF Connect for Desktop, the environment variables, libraries etc will be set for using this SDK.

So this will not work for the nRF5 SDK. If you wish to open a project with the nRF5 SDK, you should open it with the SES separately.

We have a guide for the nRF5 DK.
