Hi Selvaraj,

The Thingy52 does have an example where it plays sound over Bluetooth but its not do "BLE Audio", so there is a difference there. Depending on what you want to do it can be sufficient, but the Audio\sound quality is not fantastic due to the compression.

It depends on where you bought them from, you will have to contact your supplier in this case and take the request from there.

If not then you could try your local reginal sales manager (RSM) and ask for help, might be they can help.

It means Thingy52 doesn't have BLE audio implementation?

Since I am a mobile developer I have limited knowledge with electronics.

I already have an experience with Thingy53 which doesn't require electronic knowledge which was very simple to use.

That's why I have ordered Thingy52 thought of having BLE audio from the YouTube link: youtu.be/VcfXy5kNVxc

But from your last reply I understood that Thingy52 has nothing to do with BLE audio.

In this case do you think that I could exchange my order with nRF5340-Audio-DK ?

I am a mobile app developer. I have been looking for an example for BLE audio. I came across Thingy52 and looks interesting for myBLE audio project. I have also ordered one in the past days. Before using Thingy52, I would like to know / confirm with you whether Thingy52 support BLE audio ?

If yes, where I could find the working examples for both Android and iOS?

Hi Jamal,

LE Audio is not backwards compatible with Bluetooth Classic.

Smartphone support for LE Audio should come out later this year with the release of Android 13. I have not seen any such information about iOS yet, but they usually don't announce such until it is released.

If you want your product to be able to do both LE Audio and Bluetooth Classic you will indeed need another SoC for the Bluetooth Classic part (since none of the Nordic devices supports Bluetooth Classic), or a chip that does both LE Audio and Bluetooth Classic.

Thank you for a brilliant short explanation.

One more thing i want to know.

Is the LE audio backwards compatible with previous audio protocols over bluetooth? And will the product which we are designing work with smartphone as a single device to receive music stream and play it or we will need more then 1 devices for that?

Hi jamal,

You could use the nrf5340 Audio as a sample code for reference: https://developer.nordicsemi.com/nRF_Connect_SDK/doc/latest/nrf/applications/nrf5340_audio/README.html. It is possible to use a different DAC other than the CS47L63 with the nrf5340 audio DK itself.. If using the nrf5340 Audio DK, please follow the following steps:

Remove hw_codec_init() and all CS47L63 related code from the project
GPIO P0.21 control the switch for routing I2S to onboard codec chip or external codec pin header.
Please set P0.21 to "high" so I2S interface from nRF5340 will be routed to P10 header on the board
Connect external codec chip I2S interface to P10 header

You can do similar steps with your hardware.
