@PrithviRaj Narendra, Thank you for your update. Yes, I also had to edit the python script (same as your item 4) and I had to install only the libpcap headers (The other dependencies were already installed and those may or may not have been packaged with Fedora 21 and might have got installed while resolving dependencies for some other package)

Thank you. At the moment, I'm not able to locate the nRF51822 Development Kit dongle at my work place. I'll try it soon. By the way, the Firmware ( ble-sniffer_nRF51822_1.0.1_1111_Sniffer.hex) which is part of the nRF Sniffer package is not a hex file and the JlinkExe on Linux failed to flash when I tried to flash my custom board which has NRF51822QFAA chip. However, renaming it to ble-sniffer_nRF51822_1.0.1_1111_Sniffer.bin worked but I could not benefit from it, since my custom board does not have any USB port. I will try with the dongle soon.

Thank you so much. I'll be probably joining the Nordic 52 Global Tour seminar in Helsinki and I'll definitely raise my concern of step son treatment of FOSS by Nordic Semiconductor. I like Nordic product and I've been very vocal about it in my organization whenever there has been a debate over choosing something else over Nordic, and I'll be very happy if Nordic shows genuine interest and investment in FOSS ecosystem.

I've exactly the same view. To get started use this github.com/.../Adafruit_BLESniffer_Python done by the good people at Adafruit. It does not give realtime view of packets as in Windows, but its a good starting point. I had asked a similar question more than a year back - devzone.nordicsemi.com/.../
