 The normal firmware uses the softdevice for BLE. 
 
 My idea is to use ble_dtm to enable transmitter test, when required.

&lt;p&gt;You can safely disable softdevice while using &lt;a href="https://infocenter.nordicsemi.com/index.jsp?topic=%2Fsdk_nrf5_v17.0.2%2Fble_sdk_app_dtm_serial.html"&gt;ble_dtm&lt;/a&gt;. As mentioned in the link, this is self contained library.&lt;/p&gt;
