If this works for you then it should be fine. I am not aware of any significant side effects to be aware of. To be able to say what went wrong with the CRC validation one would need more details, like a flash dump from a failed update that could be compared to a flash dump from a successful update.

Only the pages needed for the write will be erased. So, some pages will remain in flash, containing data from older images.

No worries brother,

I had this issue, where the crc of new firmware in BANK1 mismatches on posvalidation process, after when i added fstorage_erase for BANK1 before storing the firmware, then everything worked fine

But i dont know how the process happens via BLE, that's why i asked here👍

Hi Vignesh, sorry for the delay.

If the new image is smaller, I would assume some pages are not overwritten and will remain intact. However, I will double check this.

Oh okay, understood..

So you said that each page gets erased whenever a new request is created on the fly, what if the no.of pages required for new firmware is lesser than the no.of pages used for the previous firmware in BANK1, does the remaining pages of old firmware in BANK1 gets erased??

BTW, Pardon me for further questioning...Just curious to know...

To be more specific, the flash page is erased whenever a new dfu object is created with the Create request.

The bank is erased on the fly during the DFU transfer. One page at a time.

Bank 1 will not be erased. It is up to you whether you would like to erase the bank or not before writing to it.
