We are using the SIMs from ibasis. We have decided to got for a BLE-advertisment solution for the verifcation now so I'll have to wait with the Asset Tracker V2 cloud solution, but if we return to it, we will decrease the keepalive as you propose.

Thank you very much.

RE: Thingy 91: Asset Tracker V2: Connection to nRF Cloud lost for days after switching to "Passive Mode"

Are all your devices using SIM cards from ibasis?

Thank you for the trace.

The trace indicates NAT/firewall issues. This explains why this only occurs in passive mode, and not active mode.

In passive mode, the device will in general send data upon movement. In addition, frequent pings are sent to nRF Cloud every 20 minutes, which is clearly not enough.

Attached is a firmware build (taken from latest main) where the keepalive is decreased to 2 minutes. Please try this out and see if this resolves the issue. If so, you would need to tweak the keepalive to suit your needs. Alternatively, you could try a SIM card from a different provider who might have longer NAT/firewall timeouts. Telenoer and Telia are good alternatives for testing in Norway.

It is also recommended to set a lower accelerometer threshold if you would like to trigger on movement. The default value of 10 has proven to be a bit to high to easily trigger data transmission on movement.

Our device stopped responding around 5 PM. This coincides with the time I left the office on Friday. The device was flashing green and I was able to communicate with the device via LTE Link Monitor. Unfortunately, the device was reset before I was able to find out more. I am not trying to reproduce the issue again. Anyways, I will report this to the team working on Asset Tracker v2.

Would you be able to share a modem trace from when one of your devices stop responding? Please also try to capture the corresponding data from nRFcloud as well as the log from LTE Link Monitor.

Also, which HW version of the thingy are you using? I am using v1.6.0 on my side.

RE: Thingy 91: Asset Tracker V2: Connection to nRF Cloud lost for days after switching to "Passive Mode"

Hi Per,
