In our hardware design, nrf5340 + FEM is used. Nrf5340 uses two GPIO link FEM chips to switch between PA mode and LNA mode.
I use DPPI to link the PUBLISH_RXREADY and PUBLISH_TXREADY of gpiote and radio.
I can understand the skeptitism, I would not rely on this to work well no. Unfortunately I don't have any data on the exact timing here, so you should assume it is immediate.

Maybe using on of the supported FEM configurations are compatible with the FEM you are using? Ref:
https://developer.nordicsemi.com/nRF_Connect_SDK/doc/latest/nrf/samples/esb/README.html
https://developer.nordicsemi.com/nRF_Connect_SDK/doc/latest/nrf/ug_radio_fem.html

Edit: It may be that the documentaiton is wrong here, and that ESB doesn't support FEM (at least not as of yet). In that case you likely need to look into adding a timer that is able to control the two GPIOs (PA / LNA) ahead of those two events (TXREADY / RXREADY).

Best regards,
Kenneth
