I want to be able to send the "AT#" type of SLM-specific AT commands to the modem (and read the response back) via firmware on the nRF9160.
In the lte_serial_mode example, I use the nrf_modem_at_cmd

RE: nRF9160 SLM-specific AT commands (ie AT#XHTTPCCON?) via firmware functions?

Hi,

AT# prefixed commands are not handled by the modem directly, but the serial lte modem application.

This application is made as a two-chip solution, where the nRF91 receives commands over UART.

If you want to run http functions on the nRF9160 itself, I would recommend that you look at https_client for instance.

Kind regards,
