Yes I do the pristine build when there is changes to the input files. and yes during the regular build (during dev) the build times are < 1min

Thank you for providing the information and build-times.
It seems strange to me that the build takes longer on the desktop compared to the laptop, but both I would say that both buildtimes are within the 'couple of minutes' that is to be expected when performing a pristine build.

It should be noted that you usually do not need to perform a pristine build, so your usual time building the project every time you have made a change will be far lower than this. The regular build action checks which files that have been altered, and which of their dependencies that needs to be updated, and compiles only those. Thus, when you are developing your project code, and doing a lot of incremental builds, you usually will finish the build in < 1 minute, as opposed to the pristine build (which rebuilds the entire project and all its dependencies).
Pristine build is really only needed when you have made changes to your input files (kconfig/prj.conf and devicetree files, primarily).

Build Time - Laptop

non-secure build -> under 2min

secure build -> 40-50sec

Build Time - Desktop

non-secure build -> 5 min (4min 56sec)

secure build -> 3min 15sec

the report generation (Desktop)worked after updating the toolchain manager. Here is the report generated (Desktop)

Could you detail roughly how long the pristine build is taking in both these cases?
A couple of minutes is to be expected for a large project, since it will recompile the whole project. It also depends on the specs of your laptop, as you mention.

Did you turn on the verbose logging in the 'about' pane of the toolchain manager prior to generating the report?
If not, the report could be pretty sparse if everything completes successfully.

Hi,
I have tried the build on another laptop it did build fast but the PC I'm using outreach specs when compared to the laptop but not sure why the build is taking longer time.

When I tried to generate system report on nrf connect desktop(toolchain Manager) application, no report is generated, it just says

is it due to installation error or the system report feature is broken (since I have updated the toolchain twice in this period)

1. Yes I did install the and nRF command Line tools sdk using Toolchain manager and as well VSC code extension by pressing 'open VSC' in the toolchain manager tab)

But if I remember correctly I have disabled cmake VSC code extension when it prompted to disable. Will this cause an issue

2. When I try to restart the debug service after executing couple of minutes, the device automatically gets disconnected. - Cortex debug v1.6.3

I followed and installed v1.6.0 for cortex debug - havent faced the issue this morning, but will keep looking if I face such issue

Did you install the SDK through the Toolchain manager, as well as the VSC code extension (by pressing 'open VSC' in the toolchain manager tab)? You should also make sure to have installed the nRF Command line tools.

1. Does it require any additional tools to be installed beacuse when i click on debug majority of the time the device gets disconnected and have to restart the debug process

Hello,

Yes, the pristine build option can take a couple of minutes to complete since this builds the entire project again from 'scratch'. Fortunately, you can use the regular build option (non-pristine) whenever you just have made changes to your source files.
I.e it is only really when you have made changes to the input files (such as prj.conf/Kconfigs/devicetree files) that you need to use the pristine build option. In this case, it is required to use the pristine build option in order for your changes to the input files to be taken into account.
The regular build option should complete much faster! :)
