Maybe there is a difference for Vbus beetween bt840 xe and the nrf52840.

5v is needed for vbus, what do you think about this ? maybe i need to do another board with this change ?

Have you ohmed the connection from the device USB connector to the D+/D- pins on the board itself? Could the cable be the problem?

Could you share the .hex file, so I can try to run it on a DK?

I relance this post, i use the exact same board as descibed in this post but i have a bt840xe instead of nrf52840 and i'm not able to see the device in /dev//tty or with lsusb and i don't know why..

I'm always in wait the dtr with the bt840xe and not with the nrf52840

You can technically use the nrf5 usb bootloader to run any firmware of your choosing, but you cannot use the nrf5 BLE DFU to go to zephyr.

You must have a to both reset, and atleast one GPIO routed together, as explained here:

If you do not have this, then it is not possible to use the nrf5 usb bootloader.

This is great news!

The configurations to disable DCDC and DCDC_HV are the following:

CONFIG_BOARD_ENABLE_DCDC=n
CONFIG_BOARD_ENABLE_DCDC_HV=n

And enabling 32k internal RC oscillator is this one:

CONFIG_CLOCK_CONTROL_NRF_K32SRC_RC=y

Those are set in the boards/nrf52840dongle_nrf52840.conf (and the same in the nRF52840-DK .conf file)

You can try to set the above configurations, in addition to the RTT specific configurations, in hello_world to see if you can get RTT to work now as well.

Were you successful with running hci_usb (which is from NCS), or did you run the connectivity firmware (ble_connectivity_s1xx_pca10056.hex) from nRF5 SDK?

Yes, but you are inconsistent in your feedback, which does not allow me to check if you applied changes that I recommended, like the device tree overlay and board specific configurations: RE: Trying to see DongleBLE in linux with NCS

Here's a project where I enabled the above quoted configurations and device tree overlays for nrf52840dk_nrf52840 and nrf52840dongle_nrf52840.

Please report back explicitly with details on if this project works for your custom board.

Also note that the above project disabled any use of DCDC and also uses internal 32k RC oscillator, as the dongle from us (pca10059) and the nRF52840-DK has DCDC components and external 32k source.

If you were successful running a nRF5 SDK firmware, and not any NCS example, it indicates that you have a hardware difference.

For instance the DCDC components not in-place, but this should be confirmed if the attached .zip project works for you.

i Said i will only use shell_module for now on ...i said it 2 times..

And shell_module sample with overlay_usb.conf works fine with the dongle_ble but not with my device.

With dongle _ble i could send command and he respond. I used minicom to connect to it on y linux and it works perfectly.

I just take the sample and add overlay_usb.conf in Kconfig fragments in VS code with ncs 2.0 and with nrf528470_donglenrf52840

I tried entering debug mode but i have this message :

and with rtt viewer i have nothing also, i connect to my device.

This hardware was used and works with connectivity fireware hci_usb pca10056 from sdk15.3 with the patch from pc_ble_driver. But others software didn't run succeffully on it...

The reset pin isn't routed, i use GPIO to reboot. The device can be accessed only from a rasspberry.

This card was addapted from the Dongle_ble nordic to be commanded by the rasberry.

The purpose is to use the new sdk ncs with bluetooth shell commands instead of pc_ble_driver.

I am unable to help you if you do not provide detailed information.

Please spend a bit of time and answer the below questions.

"It works on hardware xyz" is not sufficient information - what works? As previously stated, please share logs, screenshots, any information on how you program, run, and logs.

Which project(s) are you trying to flash?

What specific "board" are you building for? By "board" here, I mean the listed board in ncs/zephyr/boards/arm/ directory.

Have you tried entering debug mode, if yes; please share the detailed information on what is observed. Screenshots, logs, etc.

You mention that logging does not work. How did you enable RTT logging? By default, UART logging is used.

As a minimalistic test: Run "hello_world", configured as board "nrf52840dk_nrf52840" (ie. not configured as nrf52840dongle), with these in prj.conf:

CONFIG_USE_SEGGER_RTT=y
CONFIG_UART_CONSOLE=n
CONFIG_RTT_CONSOLE=y
CONFIG_LOG=y
CONFIG_LOG_BACKEND_UART=n
CONFIG_LOG_BACKEND_RTT=y

And open up the RTT viewer, and share the output.

Can you run anything successfully on your custom hardware? Hello world, blinky, etc?

Do you have the nRESET pin (P0.18) routed to anything?

Can you please share information related to the nRF only? For instance, what is the 32M xtal and its loading caps? Same for the 32k oscillator.

No, you do not need a usb bootloader on your custom hardware. You have a debugger/programmer, meaning that you can access the device directly using SWD.

My fireware works perfectly with Dongle Ble From nordics.

I tried adding : CONFIG_BOARD_HAS_NRF5_BOOTLOADER=n

This don't work on my custom device. I can't debug it because i can't see RTT unfortunatly after flashing the device.

I can't share it because it's condifdential...

The HW is pretty the same as the dongle USB+ and USB- are linked to D+ and D- , USB part is the same.

With the Dongle_ble nordic the usb port opened but not with my device, the usb not opened ...i tried debug to saw it but it's not working. I thought i needed to use an USB bootloader to open the usb port but maybe i misunderstanding it.

What do you mean by "no issue, this works"? Please share logs or similar showing the working behavior.

As previously mentioned, you must configure a project for a nRF52840 custom device without DFU, and this is done by adding:

CONFIG_BOARD_HAS_NRF5_BOOTLOADER=n

Since you can program a device, you shall also be able to debug it with VSCode, have you tried this?

Could you share the schematic of your custom device?

I tried to use debug RTT but when i put my fireware in my custom device i can't connect to it after that unfortunatly.... that's why i can't have log output.

Now i will only use the shell module from Zephyr. I build it with overlay-usb.conf and i have always the same issue, when i put the software in dongle_ble nordic=> no issue, this work.

But not in my custom device..., there is a difference beetween them and it's not hw

Hi,

I understand that you want this to enumerate in your operating system as a COM port device, ie. a cdc_acm device.

When firmware is the problematic component, you need to focus on that.

What you need to do is to enter debug mode on your device, and see where it gets stuck. Similarly, if you do not have a uart pinout, you can use RTT to see what the log output is.

If your firmware worked before when transmitting shell over uart, and the only change that you did was the kconfig and device-tree overlay as I described in this answer:

Then it will route your shell to use USB instead of UART. You can try to add this to for instance the shell_module sample in zephyr (../ncs/zephyr/samples/subsys/shell/shell_module)

I will try to describe the best that i can.

As i say, there isn't log in my issue...

Firt of all, I experimented a custom board nrf52840 with a FT232 Bridge USB to UART. My firware use Bluetooth Shell commands and others shell commands. This device will be used as a central. I succed to use this device with a raspberry pi and to command it with an external program in my rasspberry ( using sockets).

I use a modified version of bluetooth shell. I comunicateed with this board with Uart.

I succed to connect with putty in windows and with minicom in linux.

But this was just an experimentation, now i need to custom board without the FT232 bridge, i need to use only USB. We create another custom card based on the Dongle BLE and i try to do the same as before with the USB.

The custom board is powered by the usb , the old custom boad with FT232 was powered by a battery.

I do all this thing to have a pc-ble-driver's like with NCS. It's even better because i can customise shell commands and use more functionnalities.

I provided you also my prj.conf and my main.c.

After i first try to add usb enable by using cdc_acm sample in my software. And I try to use it with dongle BLE from nordic. As i said before, it was a succes. But not with my custom board. The HW is really the same as the Dongle BLE. the only difference beetween them is the bootloader that's all and i don't understand why this isn't working

is it clearer now ?
