It finally worked in the end. I don't know what changed, maybe a fresh pot of coffee did the trick. Anyway, the device had been completely unresponsive - I thought it was a dud. But it was as you said; the device still appears in the programmer app and vscode as the dk board. I understood the instructions to mean that I would see the Thingy's id number. I must've misunderstood the instructions.

Hello Helgi,

If you are able to see the nrf5340 with ID number printed on the label you can start working. You won't be able to see any device named Thingy in the Programmer App.

I am confused how it happened for 52840Dk, ideally it won't happen that way. This happens when you connect both DK and Thingy to PC via USB cable(don't do that way)

I just checked with 5340DK and was able to update the firmware. Please make sure your thingy53 is not connected to PC via USB cable.

Indeed I did. Yes my nrf5340 dk showes up in the programmer app, but not the Thingy Board.

Hello Helgi,

Did you followed the steps shown here? Whether you able to find your nrf5340 in nRF connect for Desktop-->Programmer App.
