Well, turns out you were right and I just can't follow a tutorial. I downloaded his repo and it works fine.

I opened my project, which was not working (upload stalled) on Monday the last time I checked and now using the same prj.conf file no changes whatsoever it works too. wtf...

When you said you followed Simons guide, which of the topics did you follow? It is only one of the guides that works for nRF5340, which is the Serial DFU of app core and net core on the nRF5340, which has a sample on github: https://github.com/simon-iversen/ncs_samples/tree/master/update_mcuboot_app_and_netcore

I can see that for instance your proj.conf is not equal to what is used in the nRF5340 sample
