That is correct. The nRF device can not poll other tags. For that you would need to use an external NFC solution.

thank you for your reply.

Can I just confirm that you are saying that the Nrf device is unable to act as the poller device? I'm looking to implement the same sort of functionality that a smart phone would have, being able to read a tag. Many thanks

Any nRF device with NFC should support both type 2 and type 4, where type 4 supports both read and write.

What we can not do is have one nRF device read another, since we can't generate the NFC field, only respond to other devices that does.
