&lt;p&gt;I think the general answer is no. Those are kind of two opposite goals and always there must be some compromise. In Thread the SED sleeps for major of the time and wakes up to ask a parent for any buffered data (polling mechanism) or it just wakes up in the scheduled slots and waits for potential messages from the parent (CSL mechanism in newer SSED type). If you want the device to answer faster, it needs to wake up more often, so burns more energy. The key question is what is the device type, so it&amp;#39;s possible to decide what are acceptable answer delays and what is required battery lifetime.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;div&gt;For example, if you want to use a temperature measurement sensor in your home and the temperature is the parameter that changes quite slowly, probably sending new data every 10 seconds would be enough. For actuators, this time is usually smaller, as a user would like to see the result of the action fast. In theory, the new SSED type should present the better solution for such cases, because in this scenario device wakes up quite often, but does nothing apart from listening, so it doesn&amp;#39;t burn out much energy. We have support for SSED in our window covering sample, so maybe it would be worth looking into, however, it&amp;#39;s a new solution and we had many problems with stability, so I cannot promise reliability of it for now.&lt;/div&gt;
