I fixed the problem by resoldering the cable on the pads there must have been a bad connection. Thanks a lot for your time and your help.

By reading the Adafruit schématic I saw that the nRF52840 is used in normal voltage mode. Are there other things that could cause the issue ?

Then you need to check the connections again. Are you using the nRF52840 in normal voltage mode (VDDH = VDD) or high voltage mode? In any case, the debugger needs to have it's Vret line connected to the VDD pin of the nRF52840.

Can you install this https://www.nordicsemi.com/Products/Development-tools/nrf-command-line-tools and test with

nrfjprog --recover

I connected the 3V3 and GND pins to a 10 pins SWD cable following this pinout.

The J-link commander reads a 3.3 voltage correctly.

Have you connected ground and VDD to the programmer?
