ok, I don't know why it behaves like that. Try removing the build configuration from VS Code, and make sure it deletes the actual build folder. If it doesn't, delete it manually. Then create the build configuration again (without moving the application location by copying it).

I tested on another computer and it worked fine. It's only that sample I believe. I built it using the nrf connect extension via visual studio

Did you test on another computer? And did you try building another sample? Does that also fail? Or is it only that sample?

How do you build the sample? Command line or Visual Studio Code? Is it possible to zip and upload the application here, so that I can try to reproduce the issue?

Tried doing that but the problem still persists. I'm running this on macOS if that helps

Update, I left the aforementioned configure edge_impulse step run for a few minutes and after 100 attempts, it stops the cmake with this message

ninja: error: manifest 'build.ninja' still dirty after 100 tries
