The instructions are written for Linux and MAC. On Windows you need to use the following command:

bash scripts/tools/zap/run_zaptool.sh ../../../nrf/samples/matter/sensor/src/template.zap

Our samples should work with Google/Apple Home out of the box. In the blog post I linked to earlier, Matter: Testing the nRF Connect platform with Apple, Google and Samsung ecosystems, the developers are using the out-of-the-box Light Bulb sample. We have seen cases of people having issues with Google/Apple home, but after looking into the issues, the developers have found that the issues are not in our SDK or samples, but rather on Google's/Apple's side.

Can you try with nRF Connect SDK v2.3.0 and see if you have the same issue? Please be aware that there are some changes to the steps of running the ZAP tool in this version. See Adding clusters to Matter application - v2.3.0.

I cleaned out the /opt/nordic/ncs/v2.2.0/modules/lib/matter/third_party/zap/repo directory re-ran the run_zaptool.sh on our zap file and got the attached error.

There could be a error in there, but as I mentioned the contents were copied from the post you linked to earlier.

So 2 questions.

1. What is the timeframe for nordic to update their samples to include one that (just) works with Google/Apple Home out of the box? This would greatly help, I think, newbie devs like me who just want a working, end to end, Matter starting point, to then hack from.

2. I have sent an email to your sales team last week about getting in contact with a nordic consultant to help us get a working Google/Apple Home Matter sample up and running, but I've heard absolutely nothing since. Is there something else I need to do?

Are you also seeing the same errors when running the ZAP tool on unmodified .zap files from the samples in the SDK?

Please try deleting the node_modules directory located under /opt/nordic/ncs/v2.2.0/modules/lib/matter/third_party/zap/repo. Delete the entire directory and its contents before you rerun run_zaptool.sh.

Please find attached the log file after running `run_zaptool.sh` against the aforementioned modified .zap file. The "ZAP tool’s Zigbee Cluster Configurator window" (as per the link you posted) never appears, I'm assuming due to the long list of errors.

Hi Dominique,

I see that the customer in the ticket you referred to was not able to get it to work using endpoint 2, so they had to remove the Dimmer Switch endpoint and make some changes. Please also be aware that the commits are from v2.1.0, so there might be some changes you have to do for it to work with v2.2.0.

Using the ZAP tool is another option. This will do the same as the first of the two commits. However, you will still need to implement the generic switch control, as is done in the last commit.

Yes. When you first use the ZAP tool, you will edit the .zap file. This is when you run the run_zaptool.sh command in the guide I linked to (step 2.4). The .zap file will then be used to generate the .matter file as well as the files located inside the zap-generated directory when you run generate.py (step 2.10).

I added the 2 GitHub code commits (I copied the zap file contents) that you linked to. It builds and deploys to the board just fine. But HomePod still says unsupported.

You mentioned above "you can also use the zap tool to add it". Is that instead of the code changes or as well as the code changes?

Is my understanding correct that the .zap file generate the .matter file and a few helper*.h/cpp files??

Hi Dominique,

The issue in that case, which might be what you are seeing as well, is that Apple Home is not able to recognize the device type Light Switch. So the alternative is to use the Generic Switch device type instead. In order to to this, you can add another endpoint to the device, for example endpoint 2, and add a Generic Switch device to this endpoint. You can look at this to see how this device is added there: https://github.com/lats1980/fw-nrfconnect-nrf/commits/demo/matter-generic-switch.

You can also use the ZAP tool to add it. Follow the guide in Adding clusters to Matter application, but create a Generic Switch instead of a Temperature Sensor:

I see there is a thread here ( RE: [Matter] Apple Home cannot identify light_switch example ) about light_switch being "unsupported" in HomePod Mini, but even though I read Andreas' and Robert's replies, it is unclear to me what code changes specifically are required for light_switch to be seen as "supported" by HomePod Mini. This is the last step in getting this step 1 of this prototype working for a disabled product we are working on.

I changed

kOn_ms to 100 and kOff_ms to 900. I reverted the other led lighting change. So the timings are the only change now.

Since yesterday I've made some progress. The light_switch app on the DK is visible from HomePod Mini, but is listed as "Not Supported"

The video is using a lock example, so neither light switch nor light bulb. It is also from nRF5 SDK for Homekit, and not Matter.

The procedure for adding the device to Apple Home is similar for the different device types, so the blog post is still relevant for adding a light switch.

Thanks for replying. The only code change I made to the sample was to change the flashing timing to be slightly longer and to turn on LED2 when I press the 2nd button. No other code changes to the sample.
