What´s the difference between nRF51822 and nRF51422 why can´t they use same softdevice? And when will new SoftDevice be ready? I was going to order nRF51922, can I order nRF51422 now and use new SoftDevice or will it be a new revision on the chip?

Hi, Nordic have decided to make two IC versions of the nRF51-series moving forward; nRF51822 and nRF51422. This means that the nRF51922 will be available as a SoftDevice option for the nRF51422 SoC IC. Nordic will then provide the following HW&SW solutions:

nRF51822 + three SoftDevices; S110 (peripheral stack), S120 (8-link central stack) and S130 (concurrent Peripheral/Central/Broadcaster/Observer Roles).

nRF51422 + two SoftDevices; S210 (ANT core stack) and S310 (concurrent ANT&BLE stack - former nRF51922).

Will it be possible to reprogrm the stack on the currecnt nRF51422, or is this only possible on the new version of the nRF51422 ? And if it's not reprogrammable, when can we expect the new version an how can we recognise it ?

Yes, there will be two separate chips in the nRF51 series, nRF51822 and nRF51422. The nRF51822 will support BLE, Gazell, and ESB. The nRF51422 will support ANT, ANT/BLE, Gazell, and ESB.

This raises the question of where does the 51822 fit into this picture? Is there only going to be 1 part in the NRF51 series or will 822 and 422 still be separate parts? Gus

Hello,

The nRF51922 will not go into mass production. However, the same functionality, with the very same stack (ANT/BLE) will be available on the nRF51422. The benefit of this is that the stack will not be pre-programmed into the chip, meaning that you can always do development using the latest version of the stack.
