What NCS revision are you using?

Regarding the connection mode being displayed as ax there used to be an issue wherein the wifi status would display ax mode irrespective of the AP configuration. This has subsequently been fixed and committed to NCS (SHA: 6e5fb98b6a1030f20bb4be950edad28500be1491). But this is just a display issue and the underlying connection itself should not have any issue as such.

Regarding the possibility of forcing the mode on nRF7002, this is not available and the nRF7002 will connect in the highest possible mode available on the AP.

So the actual issue seems to be that the ping is stopping after pinging once. For this, can you configure CONFIG_NRF_WIFI_LOW_POWER=n in prj.conf, recompile and try the test again?
