We have an nrf51-dongle for development and testing purposes, and are unable to connect to the device over USB with any of the Segger or Nordic tools. I've extensively searched the forums, and solutions offered for other "not connecting

RE: nrf51 dongle seizes moments after connection, cannot recover

Thank you for your reply, Martin. Since you have confirmed the behaviour on several machines and operating systems it sounds like it is some sort of faulty hardware on the dongle. Please submit a support ticket on MyPage and we will see if we can help you out.

RE: nrf51 dongle seizes moments after connection, cannot recover

Thanks for your reply RK, and good suggestion. I tested, and a reboot of the PC and reattachment of the device does result in correct initial detection (though still inoperable afterwards with the tools). I'm glad you've found a way to get the dongle in this state aside from waiting hours, as I presume further debugging needs to occur with proper USB enumeration.

Open to any further suggestions on what to try with the device in this state.

RE: nrf51 dongle seizes moments after connection, cannot recover

well the dongle has no memory - when it's unplugged, it's off. So the most likely cause is the windows box not correctly dealing with the removal and re-attachment of the dongle. I presume if you disconnect it for long enough the PC eventually does clean up the USB entry properly and re-discovers it properly on reconnection.

If you say you reliably get this problem if you reconnect the device in less than 10 minutes, you can easily test by removing it, rebooting the windows box which should take a minute or so, and reconnecting it. If it works, then it's even more likely it has to do with the windows box.
