I'm not in charge of the release of the SD but I'll forward your feedback internally.
Now I have to hunt that file somewhere, finally finding it in previous SoftDevice release files.
The nRF5 SDK is released with a version of the SD (latest version of the time of SDK release). The file is present in that folder, and can be used with the SD you downloaded as well.

So i did. But:

I download latest SoftDevice and try to use it. Compilation fails, due to missing file. Now I have to hunt that file somewhere, finally finding it in previous SoftDevice release files. I have to guess whether that is still the correct file. I have to assume it is, due to no other choice. There's some confusion and doubts about quality of the release. Now, how about your customers that still use legacy SDK and maintain their software, there are many of them. They all encounter the same problem.

How about the simplest path, just including correct file with lastest SoftDevice release and resolving the issue, instead of the dance described above, multiplied by number of users trying to upgrade to latest SoftDevice?

RE: SoftDevice 7.3.0: missing header nrf_sd_def.h
Yes, I can pull that file from previous release, but I don't think it's the expected routine?
Yes, you should use the one found in the SDK for v.7.3 as well.
