I've had the time to look at your questions now and I think the best way to approach this is to first recommend you to do two courses at https://academy.nordicsemi.com/

https://academy.nordicsemi.com/courses/nrf-connect-sdk-fundamentals/ which will give you insight and experience that should allow you to answer all of your questions
https://academy.nordicsemi.com/courses/bluetooth-low-energy-fundamentals/ will be a good supplement to familiarize yourself with Bluetooth Low Energy, which Bluetooth Mesh is based on. It is not quite the same, but it will break down the abstraction somewhat more.

In addition the following webinars regarding Mesh should be of help getting familiar with Bluetooth Mesh concepts
