But the code builds and runs fine when you flash it? In that case it is just a visual error.

I did. I even try a slightly newer version of SDK. Still having the same issue. Weird!!

Okay, I was just thinking if it works with command line, then we know it's most probably a vscode issue. Have you tried reinstalling vscode/nRF connect extension?

No, I haven't. Sorry to say that I am a SDK type of guy. Using West in a command line will be a disaster for me. I don't have much hair left to pull.

this seems like a vscode bug. Have you tried building from the command line using west?

I started seeing the same problem today (24 April 2023). It was not happening Friday (21 April 2023).
