This is definitely a new technology that many people have been looking forward to recently. I have not yet experienced iBeacon and will start learning about it today to see the benefits it brings to users. what to use. I am a wordle nyt lot very happy to read this wonderful article of yours.

I agree with Janek; iOS has it locked down, and a BLE peripheral scan will yield no advertisement (raw) data and almost probably none from the makers themselves. wordle today

New beacon/Advertiser and Observer application software has been released, that allows SCAN REQs from phones to be send to the application. This is based on the production S110 v7.0 Softdevice and uses the timeslot API of the S110. This software has also sends a measure of the link quality to the application by counting the number of packets that have failed the CRC check and the number of packet that have passed the CRC check. Get the software from its github repo.

Agree with Janek, iOS has it locked down and if you do a BLE peripheral scan you can't even get the advertisement (raw) data.. certainly not the manufacturers advertising data.. bit of a pain!

For what it's worth, there's nothing stopping anyone writing Android apps that listen for iBeacon advertisements, almost the same as on iOS (the downside is not having the tight OS integration that allows for actions to happen even if an app had been removed from memory, the upside is the possibility of scanning for all iBeacons, rather than just the ones that the app registers for...)

Nice, we're using nRF51822's down here in New Zealand for a similar service www.dropin.co.nz and are seeing lots of interest from mobile operators, stadiums and retailers.

Seems to be quite a few interesting ways to use it beyond just the "spam" when you enter a space, everything from driving digital signage to A/B testing of retail layouts are possible!
