Measuring nRF52 based custom PCB's RSSI

Hi, I have created a custom PCB (FR4, 4-layered) which uses nRF52832-QFAA.

This PCB uses the λ/4 printed monopole antenna.

I wish to measure the RSSI value of this custom PCB.

I have iOS/Android phone which has nRF Connect installed,

PCA10040 v1.1.1 boards, PCA10031 USB dongle, J-Link Plus.

In this case, do I have to flash a custom firmware to measure the RSSI, like this?

I use the SDK 12.2 / SDK 13 and SoftDevice 3.0, by the way.

Or can I just run my custom BLE application and use the mobile apps to check the RSSI?

-Best Regards

  • Hi,

If you are using the phone (nRF-Connect) to read the RSSI you don't need any custom firmware on the nRF52 in order to read the RSSI. Just do advertising with your application and you will be able to see the RSSI in nRF-Connect.
