PCB antenna

Hello,

I want to design PCB antenna for nRF52832 chip. I took reference from nRF51 dongle hardware layout. I wanted to spread antenna upto 18mm width so I reduced the height of antenna increasing the width of it, but the overall length of antenna is same.

The designed antenna is shown in figureimage description

Whether there will be any effect on antenna radiation and reception efficiency if I modify the actual design ?

A monopole antenna radiates from the sides of the antenna. A meander antenna, like the antenna on the nRF51-dongle, radiates from the corners. To avoid interference problems, meander antennas are therefore quite complicate to design. And we recommend to copy the one on the nRF51-dongle, because we know it works well. If changing the layout of the antenna, we don't know how it will perform.

Since the width of your PCB is 18 mm, a monopole antenna can be an option in your case. Typically, the length of a monopole antenna is 22 mm, measured from the last tuning component. This whitepaper describes how to design a monopole atnenna.

  • Thank you for your answer, that really helps. I will try to integrate the antenna from nRF-51 dongle.
