Stack with both central and peripheral support?

Hello,

We are going to use nRF51822 in our product.

Use case is as follows:

1. Connect with android/iOS phone and receive some configuration data.

2. Connect and control BLE peripheral devices

Since the S110 is peripheral stack and the S120 is central stack, we cannot use either for both use cases.

Is nordic planning to release a stack with both central and peripheral support ? If yes when?

Or what changes / amount of work will be required for making either of the two as central and peripheral stack?

Hi

The combined S110/S120 softdevice that you are asking for does exist, currently in alpha state. It is the S130 softdevice.

The release notes for the S130 say:

• Concurrent Central, Peripheral, Broadcaster and Observer operation (DRGN-4354).
• Up to 4 simultaneous active connections: up to 3 in the
  Central role, along with up to 1 in
  the Peripheral role.

When is the production ready S130 softdevice expected to be released ??

The production release of S130 is scheduled for Q4 2014. I do not have more accurate information at this point.

Hello, just a hint from my side. I think it should be possible to use S120, if it is not needed to be central and peripheral at the same time. So for configuration with a smartphone you can init S120 as an peripheral and after that, for controlling the other peripheral devices, you can switch the role of S120 to be central. We are planning to use it in that way... If that is not possible, I hope a Nordic employee will clearify this... Regards!
