Suggestion regarding our use case

Hi,

Need you suggestion regarding our use case but first I would like to explain about our use case.

In our use case there be beacons and receiver. Beacon we are considering using Nordic NRF51 beacons. On the receiver side we are considering using NRF52 DK.

We currently have nRF52832 for receiver side. We have NRF51822 for beacon side.

What we want from Nordic is following information:

1. We want high range and low power consumption chip, these two things are critical for us.
2. Is there a comparison table which compare the nordic chips in terms of power consumption and range.
3. What you suggest that which chip would be best fit in our case?

Hi,

In general, nRF52 gives better range and have lower current consumption, but this will depend on configuration. You can compare current consumption of nRF51 and nRF52 by looking at the Electrical specifications in the Product specifications:

nRF51822: 8.5.3 Radio current consumption with DC/DC enabled

nRF52832: Radio current consumption (Transmitter)

nRF52840: Radio current consumption (Transmitter)

Higher output power will give better range, and nRF52840 even support BT5 long-range mode, which can increase range even further.

I would not recommend starting a new design using nRF51 series today. nRF52 series provide much more flexibility, Bluetooth 5 suppoert, and now even comes in a low-cost variant, the nRF52810.

But NRF52840 is your new IC and not Finnish product as you mentioned previously so it is safe to use it now? When we can get the final product ?

nRF52840 is not yet available in production variants, but it is possible to develop your application using the nRF52840 Preview Development Kit. There will not be much major changes in your code for running on the final version versus the preview version. The production variant should be available before the end of the year, so depending on your development cycle, it could be available when you have your product finished for production.

I am checking the links which you provided above please could you tell me which is the difference between ITX,PLUS4dBM,DCDC and ITX,PLUS4dBM

The current marked DCDC, is the radio current consumption with DCDC regulator enabled. Note that the DCDC regulator requires additional external components.
