Cannot connect to J-Link via USB (Ubuntu on Win10)

I'm a newbie so sorry if these seem silly questions but I'm out of ideas.I have got some nRF52840 PDKs & nRF52 DK and am attempting to use Zephyr RTOS but I've run into issues.

I've installed Ubuntu on Win10 and I've compiled versions for both nRF52 DKs yet I have never managed to connect via nrfjprog or JLinkExe. There doesn't appear to be any USB devices at all.

"Connecting to J-Link via USB...FAILED: Cannot connect to J-Link via USB."

In windows JLink connects fine and SEGGER appears in device manager as COM5.

Is this a common issue with Ubuntu on Win10? Please is there a easy to follow step by step guide to resolving this?

Hi Billy, could you clarify what you mean by "installed Ubuntu on Win10"? Are you using a virtual machine (e.g. VirtualBox) or did you dual boot Windows and Ubuntu on the same machine?

You can install Ubuntu bash on windows without a VM. I am using MSYS2 via a VM which im using to compile Zephyr and using windows to flash the dev-kit.

I wasn't aware of that. Thanks! Can you see the JLINK folder in the file explorer in Ubuntu? I have just tried hooking up an nrf52dk to Ubunt 16_04_3 running on Virtualbox & I can see the JLINK folder without any issues at all.
