Using the nrf51822 development kit

Hi guys,

I plan to buy the development kit from Nordic but I had a couple of questions: 1)I know that in a previous question I posted I was told that I can use the development kit to flash other chips. I was really curious as to whether there are any guides which provide detailed instructions as to how to achieve this. 2)Second , I read in this question that I can use the development kit as a standalone kit by simply connecting Vcc and GND so that I supply power to the chip. Is there anything else I have to do apart from this in order to actually get it to be standalone?(devzone.nordicsemi.com/.../how-do-i-use-nrf51822dk). Also that particular question seems to be unresolved although it may not be directly related to my question I just wanted to confirm.

I just want to say I don't have an evaluation kit currently , so the development kit is going to be the only way I proceed. Will I face any specific problems while using it as a standalone device(Also I get access to the S110 stack irrespective of whether I buy a Evalation Kit or Development Kit correct?)

As you were told in your previous question, the nRF51822 Development Kit contains a J-Link Lite, that can be used to flash custom boards as well. To do this, you have to route at least the SWD interface and VDD/GND to a header, to which you can connect the J-Link, and your board have to run on ~3 V.

The other question you see covers what's needed to run the board standalone, and the SDK installation question has been covered separately here. It's much easier when questions are posted separately, instead of mixing them in the same thread, since the latter makes it hard to see what has been answered and not.

You will have access to the same software, no matter if you use the Evaluation Kit or Development Kit. This question also covers the differences.

Hi Mad, you can try BLE DEVKIT.N main board. It will power your development kit and also will allow you to develop and test further. There is variety of options which you can use with the board, like USB, Battery or external.
