MCP and Windows Virtual Machine?

I've seen a few posts in regards to the usage of MCP in a windows virtual machine. From what I can gather, this setup just will not work, however I haven't really seen an official statement/note on it. Has anybody been able to get this setup to work?

I myself am currently running Windows 7 virtually in OSX. I've tried to use both VMware fusion, as well as virtualbox, and have had no success with either =(.

Hi,
I have tested MCP to work on VMWare Fusion and Parallels Desktop on OSX.

VirtualBox, on the other hand, doesn't seem to work well til the JLink drivers. Installing the VirtualBox Extension Pack makes the JLink drivers get identified and installed, but the CDC UART traffic doesn't seem to get relayed correctly.

Yea, that seems to be the case with Virtual Box, the UART traffic doesn't actually seem to end up in the virtual machine or something.

Could you maybe provide the steps/details of your setup to get MCP working on Fusion. I seemingly still run into the same issue where MCP doesn't get a response from the emulator.

No special tricks should be needed to make MCP work with VMWare Fusion. I've tried with both Windows XP and Windows 7, both works for me. I'm using Fusion v8.0. The steps I went through:

• Run MCP installer (installs MCP, .NET 4, nRF Tools and JLink drivers)
• Insert the USB dongle, select "connect to Windows" when prompted by Fusion
• Open MCP
• Select the correct device/COM port from the drop down menu
• Select Flash Programming from File menu, program MEFW firmware to the dongle
• MCP should now recognize the dongle and write the MEFW firmware version to the log window

Look at that! It does work on fusion! I'm not sure why it wasn't working upon my initial attempt... Thanks for the help.
