What is the markup format used for formatting DevZone posts?
In particular I couldn't determine how to format inline monospaced text. The editor used to enter this message has a different set of editor actions allowing the format to be changed (eg. Set a default font), but this is not available in the editor used for normal DevZone questions.
It would be nice to add a 'help' popup in the post editor which lists markup options so that users could better format their posts.
what in particular is it that you are trying to achieve? If it's source code, there's a special insert menu item for that.
I'm trying to format a source code function name inline in a sentence, like the references to sd_app_evt_wait() in this question. If I use the Insert > Insert Code menu item, the code appears in a new paragraph, not inline.
It's possible to format bold, italic, underline using the Format menu, but there appears no way to be able to change the font.
Interestingly, when I posted a question today there was an additional row of editor options allowing me to set a font and add inline code which is what my original question was asking.
Either something has changed very recently related to the online post editor, or I was confused about the type of post I was editing. It appears as though replies (such as this one) have a different set of editing options available.
is this the one you were looking for?
The screenshot you've shown is for the full featured editor and allows formatting inline code. But, the editor used for replies and questions are different.
When replying to questions, the following toolbar is available in the editor. The Format dropdown from this editor doesn't have support for insertion of inline code.
When creating a question an additional set of formatting tools are available which allow more formatting options such as entry of inline code.
I think I've figured out now that the difference in editing is related to whether a question is being edited, or a reply being created. It seems strange to me that the editors are different between these two operations as I'd also like the extra formatting options when replying to questions.
