nRF9161 DevAcademy Course

I am attempting to work thru the tutorial exactly per the instructions, and I'm stuck in Lesson 1 at

         6. Wait for the device to connect to nRF Cloud.

The Cellular Monitor shows the board connected to AT&T with SNR at 10dB, which ought to be plenty for anything it needs to do. The board is properly configured into nRFCloud.

What am I missing?

Further info: Originally LED1 was blinking steadily. Now I have moved the board to a location with slightly better cell tower visibility and LED1 is off, LED3 is doing a triple-blink.

Hi Steve,

According to User Interface module — nRF Connect SDK 2.5.2 documentation (nordicsemi.com), LED3 is doing a triple-blink means your device is "Connecting to cloud".

If you connect your device to nRF Connect for Desktop->Serial Terminal or any other serial terminal tools, you should be able to see log output from the device. It will help a lot to learn if there is anything wrong happens.

Hyperterminal won't connect to either of the two COM ports visible in DevMgr, presumably because they are already connected to Cellular Monitor 2.2.0. The log there shows 4 red highlighted messages about the SIM PIN and PUK. I recall acvitating this SIM card a couple weeks ago before getting pulled away by other projects for a bit. Now I can't find my way back to the activation procedure. The DevAcademy course talks about activating an iBasis SIM a couple steps back, but those links are broken, with no visible way to get to that procedure. Hints?

Cellular Monitor 2.2.0 shows the correct values for IMSI and ICCID, so I think the SIM card is properly registered. Depending upon the exact sequence I go thru to start up, I end with one of the two blocks of error messages below. Hints?

Hi Steve,

I think you mean Exercise 1 – Nordic Developer Academy (nordicsemi.com). Can you specify which links are broken?

The procedure is also documented here Getting started with nRF9160 DK — nRF Connect SDK 2.6.0 documentation (nordicsemi.com).

I am not sure if your SIM card from AT&T requires SIM PIN and PUK input for usage. I suggest you test with the attached iBasis SIM card first with nRF9160DK, which does not need to input SIM PIN and PUK if you have successfully active it.

If you only connect with the Serial Terminal, it should give more log output and can help me understand the problem better.
