NFC Tuning and Input Resistance Intuition

Hello, I've gone over the whitepaper on NFC tuning (nWP-026): https://infocenter.nordicsemi.com/pdf/nwp_026.pdf

I understand the procedures listed to tune the NFC coil.

However, for the oscilloscope method, I'm confused by the criteria for increasing or decreasing RIN_REGVALUE to prevent the pins NFC1 and NFC2 from exceeding VDD.

The white paper states that if the the voltage swing exceeds VDD, then you should "increase the value of RIN_REGVALUE" (among other options).

Per the diagram, if the swing is large, wouldn't we want to DECREASE the value of Rin toward shunting the input pins together, rather than INCREASE?

My assumption here is that a larger RIN_REGVALUE corresponds to a larger Rin.
