AoD vs AoA

Hey,

I am plannign on developing a locator tag and I wanted to find some more precise information on when to use AoA and AoD and if it changes the accuracy drastically. I also am wondering if there Nordic SDK for AoA is more extensive than for AoD. What would be pros and cons of using either?

Thanks!

  • Hi

Both channel sounding and Direction Finding (AOA/AOD) should be usable here. Depends somewhat on what exactly you want to do. Do you need the exact position using trilateration or is distance to the device sufficient for example? Both technologies will be affected if there are a lot of metal in the way, as the 2.4GHz band is generally prone to that, I'm not sure what you mean by "nlos". Direction Finding will be provided as is from us and we don't plan adding new features to it or improving the algorithm further on our side as far as I know, while Channel sounding is an ongoing project where we work continuously on improving the solution we have. For new products I would lean towards Channel Sounding for the use case you describe, but it's ultimately up to you.
