Roger: could you elaborate? The QFN package for the 52840 has two rows of very small pads around the edge? It seems to me that KiCad would let you put a via in the inner row of pads and you could route them on the back of a 2-layer board? Or is the smallest via in KiCad (and say OshPark) smaller than the pads? Might be moot, I use modules for now.
You can run a very thin track from those pads, but think there were some pads which were related to the RF section that needed special routing etc
I recall asking a question on this forum, and I thought Nordic's answer was basically nRF52840 requires a 4 layer board and Via in Pad technology, otherwise its not guaranteed to work.
