Is it possible to provision it ( by nRF mesh running on another smartphone, for example) and make it become a ble mesh node?

Yes. That is correct.
In the light_switch server and light_switch client this is already done. The nodes are running Bluetooth Mesh for Mesh reasons and BLE for provisioning reasons.
So the nRF is fully capable of running both.
As mentioned, I would recommend that you check out the projects in the sdk_coexist folder. Note that you need to copy this one to the SDK folder to run. This is described here:
Note that after "Testing the example -> 3", adding the MESH_ROOT macro, you may need to close the project and open it again to actually update the dependencies.

Hello. I just tried to run the light_switch client on PCA10056 but it does not work (Fatal error after a few seconds of debugging). I know that the example is for PCA10040. What do I need to change in oder to get this working on PCA10056?
